Canon Canoscan
Canon, leader in imaging technology, is pleased to announce the ultra-stylish CanoScan LiDE 50 flatbed scanner with 1200 x 2400 dpi LiDE sensor, 48-bit internal/external colour depth and USB 2.0 High Speed interface.
The Canon CanoScan LiDE 50 is the world's first CIS scanner to incorporate a USB 2.0 High Speed interface, enabling high scanning speeds of up to 4 times faster than previous USB models. It is aimed at the advanced home and business user.
"With its contemporary stylish design, ultra fast scanning speeds and packed with advanced technology, the CanoScan LiDE 50 combines beauty with brains and delivers amazing results," says Malcolm Hills, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging in the UK.
High Speed Scanning
As the world's first CIS scanner with a USB 2.0 High Speed interface the CanoScan LiDE 50 offers simple installation and high speed scanning. A single cable is needed and there is no need to search for AC power. This interface also allows for easy connection to the computer for added convenience.
Technology with Style
Technology with style is a key factor in Canon's LiDE scanners and the CanoScan LiDE 50 illustrates this with its high and ultra stylish, slim design. Its 1200 x 2400 dpi LiDE sensor delivers high resolution scans yet allows the unit to be extremely compact and quiet.
LiDE (LED Indirect Exposure) is an advanced scanning technology developed and brought to market by Canon. LiDE allows substantial reduction in the number and size of individual components needed to produce a scanner, without sacrificing performance or quality. This is mainly achieved via the use of a super small, low power, LED light source and the integration of optics (lens elements) directly onto the scanning sensor. Traditional CCD devices require large fluorescent lamp light sources and a series of mirrors and lenses to focus light onto the scanning sensor.
Fast Multi-Photo mode greatly reduces overall scan time and enhances usability by allowing quick and easy scanning of many photos in a single pass. Image alignment is automatically adjusted and separate image files are created for each one. Up to 10 originals can be scanned at once making this feature ideal for creating online photo albums or archiving photos on a CD-ROM.
Design and performance
The benefits of LiDE technology have allowed Canon designers to create extremely stylish, functional products that are as desirable for their looks as they are for their high performance. The CanoScan LiDE 50 combines a silver-metallic aluminium platen lid with sophisticated black detail. Canon's LiDE scanners give the world's smallest* desktop footprint and have sleek integrated hinges and an even slimmer base section. For even greater space saving they can also be stored vertically using the in-box scanner stand. Upright scanning is possible, as the stand has been designed to support the scanner even when the platen is open.
Four EZ buttons are situated on the front of the scanner for one touch selection of frequently performed operations including copy, scan, filing and emailing. The buttons are programmable allowing many processes to be automated, including a new 'Scan to PDF' function that generates PDF files direct from paper originals.
The Canon CanoScan LiDE 50 can firmly hold documents of up to 32mm thick and also features Canon's innovative Z-lid with spring-loaded hinge, making it easy to scan bulky items such as books or magazines.
Software & Compatibility
The CanoScan LiDE models come with a powerful and fully featured software package that includes:
Comprehensive driver and toolbox software - Canon's ScanGear CS enables the user to simply perform whatever operation is required with the selection of just one icon on a menu bar. For example make copies direct to a printer or send email attachments directly.
ArcSoft PhotoStudio (PC/Mac) - a flexible image editing program allowing tasks such as colour adjustment, labelling and album storage and retrieval functions.
Adobe PhotoShop Elements (PC/Mac) - imaging software for advanced photo enhancement and manipulation.
Omnipage SE OCR (PC/Mac) - a powerful Optical Character Recognition application that allows scanned text to be converted into recognisable text characters/data by the computer.
The CanoScan LiDE 50 is compatible with Windows 98 (USB 2.0 Full Speed only), 2000 Pro, ME, XP as well as MAC OS9.0 and OS X (v10.1 or later).
